The 76ers gave everything they had in a comeback effort but ultimately fell short against the Knicks. The loss concludes their first of two back-to-back-to-backs they'll endure with the truncated season.

SKY IZ FALLING!
Ben16 - January 11, 2012
xEgan said it best
Justin F. - January 11, 2012
Fire Doug Collins – this was a disgrace.
dp - January 11, 2012 via mobile
this is a joke? yes? no?
jefu - January 11, 2012
Based on the other comments made, I am saying yes
Ben16 - January 11, 2012
Yes – 100% sarcastic. Going with the sky is falling theme. I’m not jumping off bandwagon yet. I’ll give them 2 weeks to trade for a superstar otherwise I’m definitely done with this team unless the make a playoff run in which case I’ll be back.
dp - January 11, 2012 via mobile
delete your account
and go back to bandwagon land. I can’t stomach being a fan of the same team as people like you. Trade Iguodala, maybe. We got too many good looks at the basket that were just flat out rimmed to put this on Doug. The only concern is the FT%, dougs gotta tighten that up
jdol1568 - January 11, 2012
This was not a serious comment. It was a joke.
philsandthrills - January 11, 2012
simmer my friend – dp just utilizing the beauty that is sarcasm
Tanner Steidel - January 11, 2012
but he didn’t do the /sarcasm’d thing :(
jefu - January 11, 2012
Should write it like this
Fire Doug Collins – this was a disgraceBen16 - January 11, 2012
Sarcasm font always helps, yeah.
PhiladelphiaEagles - January 11, 2012
Sucks we lost but I’m not as upset as I normally would be we fought like hell but dug too deep of a hole. It also didn’t help that the officials absolutely suck
KJ Brophy - January 11, 2012
Love Doug Collins. "No Excuses"
soman319 - January 11, 2012
I know the officials were down right criminal for much of the game, but it seems like they evened it out a little bit towards the end there. Those calls in the first half were shameful though.
highwaterhello - January 11, 2012
Why is Meeks still a starter
Just because he shoots well once every six games doesn’t warrant starter status.
Its vaguely analogous to Kyle korver starting on the bulls.
Gosu44 - January 11, 2012
Good point,
and now that I think about it I really wish we still had him.
highwaterhello - January 11, 2012
Meeks only played 16 minutes. Turner played 34.
Ben16 - January 11, 2012
Yes but with him in the starting lineup we dig holes for ourselves out the gate like it is our job.
Gosu44 - January 11, 2012
Ugh.
jefu - January 11, 2012
Again, I still have not really decided if starting matters aside from a player’s idea of where they stand. I’m leaning towards it matters a very little bit in terms of gameplay.
Michael Levin - January 11, 2012
I like
jrb5094 - January 11, 2012
Same problems that will keep us from playing deep into playoffs. No go to scorer and stagnant offense late in the game. Team plays hard but cant get over the hump. Plus I dont have confidence in anyone to hit tough free throws late in game.
Nature - January 11, 2012
All those brick jump shots in the 4th we’re REALLY hard to stomach. That being said its totally fair to make the excuse that this was the third game of three in a row, our mvp center was out, and we missed a ton of foul shots. Lou Williams play horrible as well, and that’s not gonna happen every night. Arguably, if Sweet Lou shoots for average we win the game.
highwaterhello - January 11, 2012
6 = a ton.
yosoysean - January 12, 2012
OT
The Bulls have played four teams at home. Only one of those teams scored more than 68.
philsandthrills - January 11, 2012
We're still 7-3 and still atop the Atlantic
Let’s not jump to any conclusions here, especially on 3 straight nights of games and without the starting center which leaves the team pretty thin at the position, we got basically no production out of that position tonite, and the team looked out of sync pretty much the whole night. I hope Hawes is not out for a long period and his back is not a recurring issue.
Eagladelphia - January 11, 2012
Lou Williams was non-existent tonight. Though he gets a lot of crap from the regulars (including me) here, he needs to be effective with his given time for this team to have success.
soman319 - January 11, 2012
The whole team had an off night pretty much, you’re gonna have a few of those throughout the year, but even with the off-night they kept it respectable pretty much until the end. Iggy couldn’t match the intensity by Carmelo though, that was the turning point of the game, when they both got a T and Carmelo made a couple shots after that to break it open.
Eagladelphia - January 11, 2012
huh? He shot 9/24 on the night. What game were you watching?
jefu - January 11, 2012
He had 27 points and was 8-8 from the FT line…
Eagladelphia - January 11, 2012
Maybe you don’t understand basketball. When you use 24 shots to score 27 points, this is not good.
jefu - January 11, 2012
No reason to get all worked up, he still scored 27 points on us… and you couldn’t stop him from scoring when you were close to tying.
Eagladelphia - January 11, 2012
not getting worked up. Just completely disagree, and it is obvious you don’t really know what you’re talking about. Scoring points does not mean winning if you are wasting a ridiculous amount of possessions to get those points. Come back here when you understand usage rate.
jefu - January 11, 2012
Do you run this site or something, if not then you should just keep your opinion about who should participate or not to yourself…

just teasing, but really, you could benefit from doing a little reading on the sport.
jefu - January 11, 2012
i can’t read… i can only write or type.
Eagladelphia - January 11, 2012
you suck man, even if you were right about usage rate.. d-bag
BigDog37 - January 11, 2012
yeah, who cares about usage rate anyways…
Eagladelphia - January 11, 2012
Calm down, fellers.
Jordan Sams - January 11, 2012
ha ha, just having some fun, gotta vent about the game somehow, someway…
Eagladelphia - January 11, 2012
I acknowledged your accuracy in referencing melo’s usage rate, and also criticized your douchieness
BigDog37 - January 11, 2012
That was a very fine line, and you did it well my friend…
Eagladelphia - January 11, 2012
I assume you two play space invaders together on weekends.
jefu - January 12, 2012 via mobile
Iggy had great D on him especially late. I dont believe the knicks scored in the final 8 minutes. Sixers missed shots on offense but the defense put them in position to win the game.
Mr.electric10 - January 11, 2012
Actually was really proud of the way they played tonite, they wouldn’t have kept it close last year… the refs were horrible on top of that… just being picky about that one incidence with the T’s and the intensity that Carmelo showed there, which wasn’t answered by anyone on the team. But that’s too be expected after 3 straight games in 3 nights.
Eagladelphia - January 11, 2012
yeh but the shots Melo hit after that were tough shots. Iggy didnt stop playing or give up easier layups.
Mr.electric10 - January 11, 2012
But neither did he nor anyone else on the team do anything at that time to respond back or stop the momentum from going back to the Knicks.
Eagladelphia - January 11, 2012
Yeh I agree about that part. The team is still missing a leader, which was also seen in the end of the game when no one wanted the ball in their hand. When I watched the Knicks their was no doubt when they needed the points Melo was taking the big shot. For the sixers to be an elite team they are gonna need someone to step up and take the lead in the clutch situations.
Mr.electric10 - January 11, 2012
I am liking Evan Turner’s play though, he could turn into a leader eventually, but he’s nowhere near ready now.
Eagladelphia - January 11, 2012
Yeh i think ET or Holiday will at some point.
Mr.electric10 - January 11, 2012
I have a feeling that this back problem for Hawes is going to continue for a little bit… it’s like right when we’re on track to do something good, he take 2 steps back…
Eagladelphia - January 11, 2012
Agree
You notice he was the only one to go hard to the hoop there at the end to pick up a foul? Loved that. But then he didn’t get the ball again.
J.P.Melle - January 12, 2012
Melo’s gonna get his and I’m okay with the way he got his 27 tonight. He shot poorly and had to work hard.
soman319 - January 11, 2012
I agree that he’s gonna get his, but the great defensive player that Iggy is supposed to be, he should have rose to the challenge when Carmelo initiated that whole technical… maybe he was just out of gas at that point, still not complaining about the result, just being a little picky I guess.
Eagladelphia - January 11, 2012
stop
jefu - January 11, 2012
dude…
STOPPER19 - January 11, 2012
I disagree. Doug Collins has instilled a team philosophy. The way this team has succeeded has been through a team effort. Doing what I’m assuming you are hinting at would have sort of worked against this philosophy.
Defensively, Iguodala did exactly what he was supposed to do, you can’t really do much more when you have a hand in a guys face and he still drains one.
soman319 - January 11, 2012
Well, there’s always the Tony Battie method.
philsandthrills - January 11, 2012
Disagree about him rising to the challenge. Melo hit two ridiculously hard shots after that incident and then he proceeded to miss a lot of bad shots and I thought Dre won the battle after that.
jrb5094 - January 11, 2012
I was actually glad that he did the exact opposite of what I think you’re saying. Iggy is not a 1-on-1 offensive player – he went hard and played great D and stayed within our team offense – exactly what he should have done.
J.P.Melle - January 12, 2012
Iggy played really good defense on melo – took him 24 shots to get 27 points. I’d say Iggy did his job perfectly (defensively).
After that T, Melo made a couple great shots with Iggy’s hand in his face – nothing he can do, Melo will hit them from time to time.
If you mean that Iggy didn’t match his intensity offensively, then yeah. But is that Iggy’s job. Iggy isn’t close to the offensive player Melo is.
STOPPER19 - January 11, 2012
that isn’t** Iggy’s job.
STOPPER19 - January 11, 2012
I agree, but there is no one on this team to match that intensity, that is the problem.
Eagladelphia - January 11, 2012
If intensity translate to about a point per possession, I don’t want a player with intensity.
philsandthrills - January 11, 2012
After the double technical Carmelo scored 14 points on 11 shots. He also had 3 turnovers. Both teams scored exactly 29 points after the technicals. I’m not sure it was “intensity” that won the game for the Knicks. I think it was poor shooting by the Sixers.
yosoysean - January 12, 2012
when you correct someone who doesn’t understand what he’s talking about, it’s like talking to a brick wall.
jefu - January 12, 2012
It’s actually like correcting a brick wall.
Michael Levin - January 12, 2012
I have plenty of spackle
yosoysean - January 12, 2012
I was trying to think of something more creative than the brick wall line, but my brain has been shot from a long day of work.
jefu - January 12, 2012 via mobile
Not a bad loss
I think given the circumstances this game could have been alot worse. The Knicks are oversized comparatively, and that is with Hawes. Without him it made their offense really difficult to execute. Which I think is why so many bad shots were taken, excluding Lou of course.
In addition, something is terribly wrong about how these games have started. I feel like I am watching the same game every night in the first quarter.
salviati - January 11, 2012
I’m going to virtually punch anyone in the face who makes any comments regarding going back to mediocrity now that we lost by a small margin to a well-rested team on the third night of a back-to-back-to-back. A team with super-duper stars that also lost to the Bobcats and Raptors at home, I mind you.
The sixers didn’t play like themselves tonight, but they still fought back and made the knicks look bad when the refs werent brown-nosing them. Last season they would’ve gotten blown out.
jefu - January 11, 2012
Virtual knuckle-sandwich from me as well
jrb5094 - January 11, 2012
a la Lawnmower Man
jefu - January 11, 2012
Even if I post an image in jest like I did above?
Justin F. - January 11, 2012
Cranky Contest. Me and you. Let’s rumble.
Michael Levin - January 11, 2012
Turner has done an excellent job of getting to the rim. Once he can hit that set mid-range jumper consistently he’s going to be really tough to defend. At times he’s been a little overly-aggressive but I really like the confidence he has been showing so far.
jrb5094 - January 11, 2012
I wish he’d get some more foul calls.
soman319 - January 11, 2012
The foul calls will come. I really like how ET has progressed so far from last season, on both ends of the floor.
STOPPER19 - January 11, 2012
Truth.
soman319 - January 11, 2012
Missing Hawes hurt big time as a lot of the game especially late Amare created a mismatch. The team is still a good one and should be fine in the long run. The late game D was fantastic but the offense stalled and I hate settling for that mid range jumper. When we started to drive the hoop the offense started to work better. Start making foul shots and develop a late game offense and were gonna be okay and should still win the Atlantic.
Mr.electric10 - January 11, 2012
How do the Knicks ever lose a home game with those officials?
Dpez71 - January 11, 2012
they dont
jefu - January 11, 2012
We had 922 comments on the Gamethread for a regular season game.
Holy crap. Is that a record for a nonplayoff game?
soman319 - January 11, 2012
We broke a record during a loss
Can’t wait till the next game…
Eagladelphia - January 11, 2012
I believe it is. Quantity < Quality though. Hopefully the crowd will learn and we can all be friends! Dong Shots for all!
Michael Levin - January 11, 2012
The crowd will be diminished because they were exposed in their loss to the Knicks! Iguodala sucks!Justin F. - January 12, 2012
Back to back to back games While the Knicks sat on their hineys and waited for us. The Knicks caught us on a bad night after 2 games in a row I know Doug says no excuses but it was fairly obvious ESP with thads shot at the end. We will beat the over hyped overrated Knicks. Anyone else out there that can’t stand overrated carmello Anthony I can’t stand him at all he is a cancer I think he may be one of the most overrated players in the league at least top 5. I love our team I love how we play how we hustle and how we have the best bench in the NBA we are so deep I’m looking forward to the rest of this season. I want the Knicks when we are fresh so we can spank their hineys. Let’s go sixers I am a believer in this team one loss will not change how excited I am for this team!!!!!!!!
