Refs- awful tonight
ET- loved his aggression into the paint but his jumpshot is def work in progress
Thad- awesome
Lou- he wasn’t used right tonight by doug
EB- so so game
Meeks- contributed minimally
Jrue- awful game from him. Besides the obvious error at the end, horrible one on ones and got owned by Lawson most of the game
Vuc- ehhhhhh
Doug- too whimsical tonight and erratic
1. Evan Turner was on display. He was hot and I don’t understand why you take the guy out of the game in the most crucial moments when he kept you in it.
2. Jrue… another really bad game for him. It’s like he’s taken a step back this year.
3. Iguodala… well, I didn’t expect any more or less with that FT shooting.
4. Andre Miller played like he had something to prove to the Sixers and seriously just burned the team.
5. Terrible ref job again near the end. Nene got away with an offensive foul and a travel and that “charge” by Turner was an atrocious call.
6. WHERE ARE YOU DWIGHT HOWARD?!?
7. Doug Collins. In these types of games, I get frustrated with you.
Worst game of the year for the coach. Inexplicable decisions. No BOSS or Jrue in OT. No Vuc after the 4 fouls.
Also sick of the “We shouldn’t call timeout on the final play of the game because the opposing team gets to set their defense” nonsense. This strategy has NOT been successful for a young team like the Sixers.
It’s actually the right idea. The Sixers should have a set play that they run in those situations. Why give the defence a chance to set up or talk about it?
No, not for this team it isn’t. We are much more efficient in situations with set plays. Go back to last year and look at how many games we lost because Dougie employed this strategy, only to watch the Sixers choke the game away.
What I mean is, if this team is really going to take a step forward they have to bolster the roster in that area. Absolute must. I guess we’ll have to wait until Brand gets amnestied.
The site admins here are always killing Melo for 27 points on 27 shots. How bout your boy Iguodala getting 11 points on 12 shots? What the bleep is that? This loss isn’t pinned on him alone, not by a long shot, but it wasn’t a good night for Iggy.
a lot of it is the fact that people such as yourself refer to him as a superstar because they get caught up in the fact that he is a great scorer. Yet, he does nothing else. If you only play on one side of the court, you dont deserve the title of superstar.
We all know he is fully capable of this. He did a great job when he played here. Who remembers the big Sixers/Nuggets game the first time Iverson came back as a Nugget? He went for 28 and 12 that night.
Almost 4 years later, we still don’t have someone to go to in the clutch like that. I hate you Ed Snider/Billy King.
Watching Turner in the Big Ten during his senior year, it was pretty clear he was capable of this. That’s why I was so excited when the Sixers drafted him. I think we will see a lot of games like this from him in the future.
Those people are newbs, don’t listen to them. He was an assist away from a triple double. It might of been a John Hollinger “pathetic” triple double, but still, solid game.
On the last crucial possession with about ten second left in overtime the sixers looked to Doug to see if he was calling a time out. As they inbounded they sort of moved slowly thinking a timeout was coming. Doug was urging them to try to push the ball up and beat the Nuggets down the court. Not sure if this was DC’s fault or the players, but it was clear that they didn’t know what to do in that situation. This team seems to blank out in crucial situations.
I suppose this is why we should need a star?
I noticed this when we were down earlier. The energy was sucked out of the team and when ET went 94 feet, 3 players were lagging behind and still behind the backcourt line when he was at the basket.
Nuggets play at a fast pace and the sixers fell into that trap. Not good for them. Although I wholeheartedly believe that the Nuggets are just a bad match-up for them.
I wouldn’t say a step back. If anything he’s been hesitant at times, but everyone had such high expectations for him. Im just wondering when he’s going to consistently step it up like we’re all hoping. Can’t wait for that day.
officials were bad against the knicks because they have super duper stars. The sixers were also tierd and weren’t playing like themselves.
This time they lost to a good team wiith a 35 year old playing like one of the sixers vets slept with his baby-momma.
Factor this in with a certain ref who made atrocious calls.
This team really might be one of the best fits for him in the league. Not that he won’t be good anywhere he goes, but this team is already built in a way that all he’d have to do is show up and they’d win with him. More so than even the Mavericks or Lakers or whatever. The Sixers wouldn’t have to change anything about their style of play.
He wont shoot another three for the next 20 games, and when he does it’ll be an air-ball. Seriously, motivation can be such a driving force. He really had no business making most of those shots tonight.
Absolutely right. Remember how often you heard “And down it goes!” as a result of an Andre Miller shot when he played in Philly? Like 3 times per season.
A win would have been so key. I was looking forward to shoving it in the eye of “Sixers are still terrible/haven’t beaten anybody/Granger was injured/etc”. Now we’ll have to wait til Friday. Argh!
One thing that annoys me about Collins is how stubborn he is with playing the vets over the young guys. Evan Turner was our best player offensively late in the game, no reason why Collins shouldn’t of gotten the ball in his hands and put him to work. He was getting high percentage looks too, frustrating stuff but I still do love Dougie.
A big problem we had was the pick and roll from the 4 and 5 spot, more so the 5th. Brand couldn’t rotate well and had to over-commit to basically stop the ball handler leaving his guy completely (typically Nene) wide open. Vuce did a better job at stopping this in the first quarter and I want to believe Hawes, if he played, would have done a better job as well.
only a rook. Doug doesn’t trust him. Read, “The Jordan Rules,” and you’ll get a better picture of Doug Collins and his coaching habits. Some of those he has still carried over from his earlier coaching gigs.
Yeah, that was pretty gross and wasn’t really stopped all night. That’s what I meant about not at least letting Vuce do what he could do. It was obvious EB just wasn’t quick enough to handle it.
The Nuggets definitely won that Melo trade. All the commentators and experts kept saying, “do whatever it takes to land the superstar”. But I always felt it was a bad move.
Turner was back from injury. That’s my only guess. He wanted to ease him in. And he got a lot of playing time in the second half. I don’t agree with taking him out in the crucial moments of the game, however.
The injury explanation doesn’t work because Meeks has been getting more minutes than Turner all season, even though Meeks (and I’m being 100% honest here) does not belong in the NBA, let alone starting.
To say he doesn’t belong in the NBA is a bold statement, one that I don’t agree with. Is he a below average starter? I would definitely say yes. But he does serve a purpose; he stretches the floor with the three, can play mediocre defense, and can run the floor and finish. DC basically likes him because he can stretch the floor. I’m probably one of the biggest Turner fans on here, so trust me I want to see him play as much as possible but I’m really just happy that he’s getting minutes. Starting will come in time just have patience.
Stretching the floor means “floor spacing”. Because Meeks is dangerous behind the arc, defenders have to respect that and play up on him. The positioning of defensive players are directly effected as it’s one less player clogging up the lane at the start of an offensive set and its a good kick out option if players are drawn in by someone collapsing the lane. Meeks plays adequate (kind of average) defense and he can run the floor pretty as well. He warrants minutes and is “starting” because he compliments the rest of the back court well with Iguodala and Jrue.
Now I’m not suggesting that I don’t want Turner to start but I understand the “logic” behind it all. Kate Fagan outlined it really well when she talked about it a few weeks ago.
Maybe I’m watching a different game but every time I’ve seen that dude Meeks shoot he has been wide open. Where is this “defenders have to respect that and play up on him.” happening?
When jrue decides to be a man and start jumping into defenders instead of pulling up for jumpers he’ll take the next step. There was a play in the first half where he could have easily drawn a foul against nene and instead stopped and got blocked.
Yeah I read it first thinking he was talking about Iguodala when he said “He scores. But isn’t well rounded”. If so, the exact opposite is true. So I was like, what the heck? But in reading it again, I think he was talking about Jodie Meeks and never elaborated on the Rabble Rabble.
This is true. Regardless, I referred him to philly.com. People over there are having a hay-day accusing all kinds of people from Iguodala (mostly) for not being clutch, to Holiday for being stupid, to Doug Collins for being like Andy Reid. You never know what’s going to get put on that site, but one thing’s for sure it will certainly make you shake your head and laugh.
Maybe he was just giving him a helpful reminder on where he needs to improve. If so, however, he should really wait until after the game. Comments like that on the court can be very distracting.
It seems like Iggy gets shaken by stuff like that. Carmelo seemed to wreck Iggy with words as well. I’d like to see Carmelo try that s**t with Turner, it would end differently.
We typically eat opposing fans up because we are absolutely ravenous but since you said you come in peace… we’ll let you live…for now.
No but seriously, thanks for stopping by. The game was really exciting. You guys have a really deep team and your front court exposed ours significantly. I actually really like the nuggets compared to most teams in the west. Andre Miller played out of his mind but I feel like he had something to prove and used that as motivation. He’s a good player but I don’t expect that sort of performance every night. haha
Why would you...
…take ET off the floor in the games most crucial moments?

And the BS out of bounds call…and the multiple huddles for determining possession. Lousy crew.
nyunole - January 18, 2012
Sixers shot an uncharacteristically low .439 from the floor. That’s why they lost.

Exactly, and not because of defense or lousy calls.

To be fair to Iguodala
Denver’s Galinari was playing some great defense on him all night.
Alas, Gallo was also shut down by Iggy on the other end, putting up a scant 3 points.
Just because the offense wasn’t there doesn’t mean Iguodala didn’t show up. He shut down Denver’s most consistent offensive player in Gallo.
Cheers.

jefu - January 18, 2012
The Nuggets definitely won that Melo trade. All the commentators and experts kept saying, “do whatever it takes to land the superstar”. But I always felt it was a bad move.
Naismithball - January 18, 2012
Doug doesn't like ET
Look at evan’s line and then take a look at Jodie’s line and then explain to me why they played the same minutes.
E.T.23 - January 18, 2012
word.
phitePSEF - January 18, 2012
Turner was back from injury. That’s my only guess. He wanted to ease him in. And he got a lot of playing time in the second half. I don’t agree with taking him out in the crucial moments of the game, however.
soman319 - January 18, 2012
The injury explanation doesn’t work because Meeks has been getting more minutes than Turner all season, even though Meeks (and I’m being 100% honest here) does not belong in the NBA, let alone starting.
splinter27 - January 18, 2012
To say he doesn’t belong in the NBA is a bold statement, one that I don’t agree with. Is he a below average starter? I would definitely say yes. But he does serve a purpose; he stretches the floor with the three, can play mediocre defense, and can run the floor and finish. DC basically likes him because he can stretch the floor. I’m probably one of the biggest Turner fans on here, so trust me I want to see him play as much as possible but I’m really just happy that he’s getting minutes. Starting will come in time just have patience.
jrb5094 - January 18, 2012
I don’t really see him ever “stretching the floor.” What’s the difference between Meeks and Kapono? I don’t think Kapono is an NBA player either.
splinter27 - January 18, 2012
Kate Fagan outlined it really well when she talked about it a few weeks ago.
soman319 - January 18, 2012
Thank you. Really didn’t feel like explaining that lol
jrb5094 - January 18, 2012
Maybe I’m watching a different game but every time I’ve seen that dude Meeks shoot he has been wide open. Where is this “defenders have to respect that and play up on him.” happening?
splinter27 - January 18, 2012
Meeks is averaging 25.2 minutes per game this season.
Turner is averaging 26.2 minutes per game this season.
Those numbers are a little too close but your statement is untrue.
yosoysean - January 19, 2012
Getting tired of waiting for the "Jruth".
Has not shown any improvement this season, if anything he has digressed.
phitePSEF - January 18, 2012
I don't know about digressed...
He hasn’t been amazing yet this year, but he’s still only like the same age as me. And look what he’s doing with HIS life.
Naismithball - January 18, 2012
When jrue decides to be a man and start jumping into defenders instead of pulling up for jumpers he’ll take the next step. There was a play in the first half where he could have easily drawn a foul against nene and instead stopped and got blocked.
E.T.23 - January 18, 2012
You mean regressed?
philsandthrills - January 18, 2012
GUYS, STOP DIGRESSING
Michael Levin - January 18, 2012
Am i the only person who thinks Meeks is a bench player?
I still don’t see why he’s starting. His 3-Pt shot is good but still not a sure thing. I don’t get it.
And Iggy…….
In order to save myself from ranting, i’ll just post this.
TitansJonne - January 18, 2012
Yeah he doesn’t score 20ppg. Totally sux.
jefu - January 18, 2012
Sarcasm?
Im not saying he’s useless. He scores. But isn’t well rounded enough to be a starter imo
TitansJonne - January 18, 2012
Wow. You should post the rest of your comments here
jefu - January 18, 2012
I think you're talking about Jodie Meeks, right?
If not………….
Naismithball - January 18, 2012
Yeah I was referring to the Iggy rabble rabble. Never heard anyone declare meeks should score 20ppg and sucks for not doing so.
jefu - January 18, 2012
Yeah I read it first thinking he was talking about Iguodala when he said “He scores. But isn’t well rounded”. If so, the exact opposite is true. So I was like, what the heck? But in reading it again, I think he was talking about Jodie Meeks and never elaborated on the Rabble Rabble.
Naismithball - January 18, 2012
This is true. Regardless, I referred him to philly.com. People over there are having a hay-day accusing all kinds of people from Iguodala (mostly) for not being clutch, to Holiday for being stupid, to Doug Collins for being like Andy Reid. You never know what’s going to get put on that site, but one thing’s for sure it will certainly make you shake your head and laugh.
jefu - January 18, 2012
Nothing’s better than a good laugh!
Naismithball - January 18, 2012
That should be their tagline.
Naismithball - January 18, 2012
I expect more
out of Jrue than you though ;)
phitePSEF - January 18, 2012
Andre Miller needs to be murdered asap
xEgan - January 18, 2012
Maybe he was just giving him a helpful reminder on where he needs to improve. If so, however, he should really wait until after the game. Comments like that on the court can be very distracting.
Naismithball - January 18, 2012
There’s no way he was saying it to be nice. Maybe to make a joking stab, but it’s more a jackass comment than a condescending one.
jefu - January 18, 2012
I know.
I was just messing around. He was definitely just being a jerk.
Naismithball - January 18, 2012
meh, who knows how much crap they say to each other during games. Iguodala seems like the more classy type.
jefu - January 18, 2012
It seems like Iggy gets shaken by stuff like that. Carmelo seemed to wreck Iggy with words as well. I’d like to see Carmelo try that s**t with Turner, it would end differently.
splinter27 - January 18, 2012
Supposedly he said to Iguodala after he missed the first free throw. In this case, he hit the second one after hearing the comment.
As for Carmelo, Iguodala stifled him in the fourth quarter, which was after the technical. You must’ve been watching a different game.
jefu - January 19, 2012
True. Turner is a totally super-awesome dude.
jefu - January 19, 2012
hey
I’m a Nuggets fan. I come in peace.
I’m pulling for the 76ers in the East this year. Really like how your team plays. I was expecting a good game tonight and was not disappointed.
Some terrible officiating tonight. That wasn’t a charge there at the end.
Look forward to watching the 76ers play more.
Fly Agaric - January 18, 2012
Can you give us Andre back?
splinter27 - January 18, 2012
We typically eat opposing fans up because we are absolutely ravenous but since you said you come in peace… we’ll let you live…for now.
No but seriously, thanks for stopping by. The game was really exciting. You guys have a really deep team and your front court exposed ours significantly. I actually really like the nuggets compared to most teams in the west. Andre Miller played out of his mind but I feel like he had something to prove and used that as motivation. He’s a good player but I don’t expect that sort of performance every night. haha
