Easy schedule be damned! The Sixers have beaten the Chicago Bulls and basketball relevance is officially back in Philadelphia. I think we have something here, you guys.
First person to mention the Bulls didn't have Luol Deng and Richard Hamilton gets shot.
CELEBRATE! DONG SHOTS FOR EVERYONE!

Rip and Deng
are cancelled out by Hawes and Vuc. Its a $%$&& great win and you know it. 18 points is no accident. Sourpuss!!!!

You must be new to this blog. I was being sarcastic.

No i just don’t you and you should know that in the case that you were kidding your signature screams pessimism not sarcasm.

Except he is quoting someone else, not himself. So his signature screams hilarity and nothing else.

Rose had a tummy ache, they play tomorrow night, and game was in Philly – doesnt count. Post game hotties please!

But no chance we win on Friday.

PhiladelphiaEagles - February 1, 2012
that’s because the sixers haven’t faced any legit teams yet. We won all of our games against easy opponents and against teams that were missing crucial players. sixers aren’t actually good. No need for them to get national media attention.
jefu - February 1, 2012
Rose had a boo-boo. His mommy couldn’t kiss it better, since it was a road game. Doesn’t count.
dweebowitz - February 1, 2012
Sarcasm? I hope so, cause we definitely can.
J.P.Melle - February 1, 2012
Lavoy Allen can play a little bit. More depth is always good.
Nikk.m - February 1, 2012
Yep
Hopefully if they amnesty Brand to sign someone I think he might be able to do a very good job replacing a lot of what Brand gives them now.
Dpez71 - February 1, 2012
I just wish they’d play a good team though.
J.P.Melle - February 1, 2012
We lost to the Nets
LouWilliamsMVP - February 1, 2012
You could tell they would lose that one in the first quarter. Took the Nets way too lightly.
Nikk.m - February 1, 2012
That’s only because we’re now good enough to not take bad teams seriously enough.
J.P.Melle - February 1, 2012
bulls lost to the warriors. Therefore, bulls suck.

Nikk.m - February 1, 2012

…Rose had a hangnail and couldn’t play his best.
dweebowitz - February 1, 2012
You know those can be really painful.
J.P.Melle - February 1, 2012
i can attest to this. They hurt sooo bad
highwaterhello - February 1, 2012
I hope we get Haws and Vuce back for the Miami game. If we can do this to Chicago, we can beat anyone.
RickoT - February 1, 2012
Funny, the blueprint for easy wins against the Magic and Bulls… looked a heck of a lot like their easy wins against the weaker teams.
Shocking?
tk76 - February 1, 2012
When's the last the Sixers were 10 games above .500?
soman319 - February 1, 2012
The last time they played all losing teams in a row for a month :)

Looking around basketball-reference, and it looks like the end of the ’03 season.
Also known as the end of the Larry Brown era.

PhiladelphiaEagles - February 1, 2012

Djax10 - February 1, 2012
lol shaky offense…because we don’t have any isolation stars!!!! that’s the only way to win!!
jefu - February 1, 2012
Shaky
Halfcout offense maybe?
Dpez71 - February 1, 2012
Except every team’s offense this year has been shaky, and we’re averaging over 100 a game, and looked even better before our top 2 centers went down. I feel like Rodney Dangerfield.
J.P.Melle - February 1, 2012
er, our only two centers.
briztoon - February 1, 2012
Pretty accurate.
Dpez71 - February 1, 2012

dweebowitz - February 1, 2012
Hey guys, guess what?
Offensive rebounds:
Bulls – 8
Sixers – 11
jefu - February 1, 2012
stat of the night right there.
mrprice33 - February 1, 2012
Rip Hamilton would have had 20 o-boards, so it doesn’t count.
dweebowitz - February 1, 2012
deng would’ve prevented the sixers from getting any rebounds at all, and would’ve scored 100 points.
jefu - February 1, 2012
Also true. Because he’s averaging 100/45 per game
dweebowitz - February 1, 2012
so he’s like 20 times better than Iguodala who averages 5/2.25
jefu - February 1, 2012
Fast break points don’t count. So 1/2.25.
dweebowitz - February 1, 2012
lol, true. those are negative points.
jefu - February 1, 2012
Cap him at 0.5 shots per night.
Michael Levin - February 1, 2012
he also needs ot stop getting to the free throw line. It only hurts the sixers.
jefu - February 1, 2012
If I see Andre taking more than 0.5 shots in a game I’m always like OMG ANDRE YOU AREN’T KOBE WHY DO YOU THINK YOU ARE?!?!

Had the Sixers given the crowd Big Macs, that would have been disrespectful. But the Dre assist to Jrue? Nonsense.

Jodie M33ks had 3 points. He is a starter
highwaterhello - February 1, 2012
so who had more minutes, jodie or evan?
jefu - February 1, 2012
Evan had 13 more minutes
KJ Brophy - February 1, 2012
hm, so it matters who starts then, right?
jefu - February 1, 2012
It’s basically just whoever is playing better. Jodie was playing like ass, so Evan got the call. I just want Evan playing all the time, regardless of whether or not Jodie hits his first shot or two.
Michael Levin - February 1, 2012
Yes, I think Turner should always get more minutes unless Jodie is just unstoppable from the three.
jefu - February 1, 2012
Evan, but that doesnt change the fact that Meeks takes abhorrent shots all the time, at least recently. He played much better at the start of the season.
highwaterhello - February 1, 2012
basketballreference.com
go there and look up meeks’ stats. You will see that he is very efficient this year.
jefu - February 1, 2012
Your a moron. Meeks started out slow and has been great ever since.
BrandonB - February 1, 2012
Dont be a child. Im just saying that Id rather have more a effective 3 point shooter, especially if hes going to be a starter.
highwaterhello - February 1, 2012
he’s shooting 43% from three! Did you misread the stat sheet?
jefu - February 1, 2012
Im not saying hes a terrible player, but he has no right start on any team in league. Im not really sure how you can argue with that statement.
highwaterhello - February 1, 2012
my goodness. you really need to educate yourself or just stop making comments. You’re completely wrong.
jefu - February 1, 2012
dude chill out you take things too far all time. This was a great win, and I made an off comment about something that annoys me. What are you the commissioner of this blog or something?

highwaterhello - February 1, 2012
Did you read the arguments, that’s how. Plus him starting puts Turner in a good role off the bench, and creates space for Iggy and Jrue. That’s also how. And he’s shown the ability to hit a big 3 when it’s needed. That’s also how.
J.P.Melle - February 1, 2012
Definitely know of the argument to start meeks over turner, and its clearly a fair argument. Im just saying that the sixers should eventually get a better shooting guard. And yes I know meeks can has the ability to hit a big 3.
highwaterhello - February 1, 2012
minus the can*
highwaterhello - February 1, 2012
so you think offense is all about hitting the big shot? Yep, you’re definitely allergic to statistics.
jefu - February 1, 2012
lol omg youre taking my comments out of context.
highwaterhello - February 1, 2012
I’m sorry, but you can’t say comments like, “Meeks started off the season hot” and “you’d rather have a more effective three point shooter” and have me believing that you’ve read a stat sheet before.
jefu - February 1, 2012
Theres really no need to go on at this point. Maybe I should have just said I think Jodie needs to shoot better.
highwaterhello - February 1, 2012
and you would still be wrong. Because he’s one of the most, if not the most efficient scorer on the team right now.
As I said before: basketballreference.com
Please go there.
jefu - February 1, 2012
I rushed those comments def, I was mistaken. But at least agree that we could eventually have a better shooting guard then meeks. Thats all im saying.
highwaterhello - February 1, 2012
Sure, and we could eventually have a better point guard. All we need to do is get rid of Jrue and get Deron williams to come here.
In fact, we could replace everyone on the roster with a better player.
Unfortunately, this is the real world. In this real world this non-fantasy-sixers team happens to be 16-6. Just enjoy it.
jefu - February 1, 2012
He’s shooting 43%, and improving his defense, and we just beat the Bulls and DC didn’t overplay him. I feel good.
J.P.Melle - February 1, 2012
*43% from 3.
J.P.Melle - February 1, 2012
Whoa there man, do you remember Meeks at the start of the season. He could barely hit the rim.
J.P.Melle - February 1, 2012

jefu - February 1, 2012
Wait – Sixers played tonight?
dp - February 1, 2012 via mobile
The usual...
…Reigning MVP Derrick Rose had 18 points and 6 assists, but that wasn’t quite enough as the Bulls hit a speedbump in their road to the Finals, losing in a heartbreaker to the 76ers, 98-82. Said coach Tom Thibodeau after the game, “Derrick played his heart out tonight, but he was suffering through a painful hangnail that really limited his game. You have to give him credit for being a real gamer out there”
Andre Iguodala also played tonight.
dweebowitz - February 1, 2012
“sixers…isn’t that the team from syracuse? Anyway, bulls didn’t have two of their best players tonight and it’s hard to win on the road. We’ll just forget this one and go back to more lebron and blake highlights. Back to you, Tim.”
jefu - February 1, 2012
“Thanks, Bob! Hey! Did you see that dunk Griffin made over Perkins? Awesome! And Rose really dominated tonight, he was just amazing, shame Hamilton and Deng weren’t available. You hate to see that kind of thing happen to a great team like this.”
dweebowitz - February 1, 2012
“yeah they must’ve been sleeping behind the wheel. These things happen. Who’s even on the sixers anyway??”

nyunole - February 1, 2012 via Android app
No question about it...
This was a quality win. The Bulls were without Deng and Hamilton, but the Sixers were without their top two centers and were relying on 77 year old Tony Battie and a 6’9" 2nd round rookie playing out of position to man the middle. I’d say that’s a wash.
This is a really good basketball T-E-A-M. They play phenomenal defense, they hustle, they work their asses off, they’re unselfish, they don’t turn the ball over, and they go 10 deep (11 if you count the aforementioned Battie). None of those are traits that get you on SportsCenter, but they are traits that win games.

I think his assumption is that since a team like the Celtics is filled with veterans having tons of playoff experience, they can magically hit a switch in the playoffs and turn 10 years younger.
dweebowitz - February 1, 2012
his assumption is that the Geriatric Ballers have anything left in the tank
CoburnsCuddleBuddy - February 1, 2012
They’re “playoff tested.”
dweebowitz - February 1, 2012
just want to restate that I believe it was the raptors’ announcers. It threw me off because it was a celtics home game, but they were talking about how bad the game was (celtics were blowing out the raptors). so yeah.
jefu - February 1, 2012
So true. I would love to see the bulls in the playoffs. However a healthy Dong makes me nervous. Hes got such long arms!!
I aint afraid of no Hamilton though.
highwaterhello - February 1, 2012
According to Hollingers PER Stat....
Hawes(22.40)Vucevic(18.32)= 40.72
Deng(16.36)Hamilton(13.94)=30.3
bulls fans really need to stop complaining.
pman8 - February 1, 2012
Did John Hollinger really invent PER?
What a crazy man.
highwaterhello - February 1, 2012
can’t tell if you’re being sarcastic or not
pman8 - February 1, 2012
I just find it funny that one game came up with such a ridiculous formula. Have you seen the equation?
highwaterhello - February 1, 2012
guy
highwaterhello - February 1, 2012
yeah it’s nuts and just causes controversy… just like his power rankings.. basically if he makes your team/player look good, you love him and if he makes your team/player look bad, you hate him.
pman8 - February 1, 2012
Right right. Kind like when he had the sixers at #1. National people loved that pick.
highwaterhello - February 1, 2012
Just saw this over at BlogABull
“Iggy thinks hes Lebron.” Then someone responded and said “well hes doing a pretty damn good job so far.” #HatersGonHate

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Ben16 - February 1, 2012
How did ESPN
really think Lavoy was worse than White Mamba? I mean, all joking aside.
Naismithball - February 1, 2012
or willie green
pman8 - February 1, 2012
My guess is..
.. they’d never really watched him play and just thought “Lavoy who?” when the Sixers picked him, then assumed he was only a courtesy pick since the’s a local kid and wrote him off.
Xeynon - February 1, 2012
I kind of want the Sixers to continue to fly under the radar and continue to get zero credit for anything. Makes for no shortage of bulletin board material.
BrandonB - February 1, 2012
Same goes for the fact that espn named Allen worst in the league,,
That’s enough motivation for a lifetime.
highwaterhello - February 1, 2012
Rick Carlisle kicked a ball into the stands, hit a fan, and got ejected
Eventful night in the NBA.
phillyhoosfan - February 1, 2012
can’t wait until somebody makes a .gif out of that.
pman8 - February 1, 2012
id be honor to be kickballed in the face by Rick Carlisle
CoburnsCuddleBuddy - February 1, 2012

wow this did not disappoint.
highwaterhello - February 1, 2012
To be the man, you gotta beat the man. WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
grego314 - February 1, 2012
Sixers haven't played anyone...
and yet they have beaten every Eastern Conference playoff team accept the Heat and have yet to play the Celtics. Collins said it best in his post game…“the NBA is all about match-ups.” The Sixers match-up favorably against every other team in the East other than the Heat. If someone like the Hawks, Pacers, or Bulls were to knock off the Heat in the Playoffs….crazier things have happened.
DirtyWaters - February 1, 2012
acceptexceptDirtyWaters - February 1, 2012
Bucks are apparently their kryptonite. Just sayin.
soman319 - February 1, 2012
them too
DirtyWaters - February 1, 2012
exactly
I think if the Sixers pull the Heat, they lose, but we match up well v the rest of the east. The Heat having LeBron essentially cancels out Iggy. Iggy can’t play an effective game while guarding and being guarded by a better version of himself. If they avoid the heat, they might have a chance of getting past the 2nd, but I hate even going down that train of thought.
Dan Pearson - February 1, 2012
I’m hoping he breaks his leg and is out for the next 15 months, that would take care of everything.God damn Lebron for being so dominant.
highwaterhello - February 1, 2012
Admittedly I didn’t get to see enough of the Heat game this year, but it was the third game in four nights, on the road. We played them pretty well in the playoffs and are clearly better than we were then. I kinda think we match up well enough with them as well any anyone can.
J.P.Melle - February 1, 2012
Great win but they have already proved themselves to me
I dont want to be too chastising but really anybody that needed this game to get really excited about the Sixers I just don’t get it. Sure, they haven’t played the strongest schedule but they literally could have won every game they played this year except for the game against the Heat and maybe the Knicks game although it was a 6 point game or so at one point in the last few minutes and it was the third straight game in three nights. This team is for real.
Brannigan1973 - February 1, 2012
Have a Day AI9!
He deserves all the praise this game for really leading the team on both sides of the ball. And a real nice effort by Allen, Young, and bounce-back 2nd half by Jrue. Great game!
HermosaPhilly - February 1, 2012
Good win tonight.
Does anyone know when Spencer Hawes is expected back?
Igglesfan13 - February 1, 2012
He was expected back already. Nobody knows when he actually will be.
