Andre Iguodala Named To 2012 NBA All-Star Team

Andre Iguodala has officially been named to the 2012 Eastern Conference All-Star team, and he will be the Sixers' first representative since Allen Iverson in 2006.

Iguodala may have deserved to be an All-Star in the past, but the lack of "sexy" scoring numbers and the fact that the Sixers have never been a very good team at the All-Star break severely hurt his chances. This year Iguodala is only averaging 13 points per game, but his team is 18-8 and lead the Atlantic Division. He's probably also the best perimeter defender in the NBA, and does so much else offensively for the first-place Sixers team.

Much has been written about Iguodala's deservedness in the past month. I kicked it off with the question "Does Iguodala deserve to make it?" Derek followed up with a case on why Iguodala should make the team. And today, you voted on whether Iguodala would make the team. 71 percent of you voted 'yes'.

Given the Sixers' early season-success Jrue Holiday and Louis Williams also received a little All-Star buzz, but ultimately, both were left off.

Make the jump for the complete list of NBA All-Stars.

Star-divide

Eastern Conference

Starters: Derrick Rose, Dwyane Wade, Carmelo Anthony, LeBron James and Dwight Howard

Reserves: Joe Johnson, Andre Iguodala, Paul Pierce, Deron Williams, Chris Bosh, Luol Deng and Roy Hibbert

Western Conference

Starters: Chris Paul, Kobe Bryant, Kevin Durant, Blake Griffin and Andrew Bynum

Reserves: Marc Gasol, Russell Westbrook, Steve Nash, Kevin Love, LaMarcus Aldridge, Tony Parker and Dirk Nowitzki

Congrats to Andre Iguodala for his first and much-deserved All-Star selection. Go on Twitter and congratulate the man. The game will be held in Orlando on February 26.

Congrats to Iguodala. Well deserved

Josh Smith should be on that team. He’s the biggest reason the Hawks have stayed on course, not Joe Johnson.

Wanted Josh Smith over Brand

Back during the “PhillyMax” contract when the Sixers were trying to bring Smith in. Still, I’m not too disappointed in Brand’s effort. He gives you what he has left.

About time........

I have to say I understand why he made it but it’s bs that Deron Williams is an all star. The Inside the NBA guys were saying Lou should be there instead of him I’m not sure about that because Josh Smith got snubbed too but he’s the least deserving

Deron, Nash, Nowitski

No, no, no. “Turrible”.
On top of that, Greg Monroe is a snub.

Not particularly surprised, but would have been a major injustice if he didn’t get in.

I take issue with Greg Monroe not getting in. Don’t think Pierce is deserving either.

Even if the Celtics and Lakers were both 10 games under .500

…someone from those teams would make it in. It is what is.
Congrats to your boy Iguodala.

Still think you overrate Monroe.

Hibbert has been having a better season, and I think you have to take some account into the fact that the Pacers are good and the Pistons absolutely suck.

According to stats that matter more, Monroe is having the better season.

I don’t think being on a bad team should ever disqualify a player for ASG and MVP considerations. Same as I didn’t think Iguodala should make it because the Sixers are good – he should make it because he’s been playing better than almost everyone else at his position.

A fine line.

Problem is that the whole ppg logic is magnified when you have players whose stats are inflated by the fact that they are on a bad team. Not that they should or shouldn’t be disqualified but the grading scale should be curved in favor of guys like Iguodala.

… Though that sounds biased (and it kind of is)

He has the stats but he's on a 7-20 team

Also: Kyrie, even though he wouldn’t play anyway due to the concussion.

is he going to be out for the next few weeks?

Nobody deserves it more

but guys, I’m seriously worried that this news sent LQG over the edge. We need to check the hospitals and morgues ASAP. He either had a heart attack, shot himself, or is harming others.

As long as he isn’t harming others, who cares? He made his decisions and now he has to suffer to consequences!

Everyone start tweeting Dre to get into the dunk contest

I'd rather see M33KS!!! in the 3 point contest
I've been wondering why he's not competing anymore.
Have to admit I'm surprised...

…I figured it would be a year or two before the voting types decided the Sixers were ready to have an All-Star.

This is officially the worst day of LQG’s life.

Awwwww…I’m heartbroken :D

i’m not

Awwww, come on, you know you miss him…

this is true.

I wish people would stop mentioning him. He’s gone. Let’s forget about him.

LQG!!!

I remember seeing what he looked like on the LB Facebook site. He’s looks…interesting?

Now you have me scouring that page trying to find him

I logged on just to have some LQG-related banter

Dunking contest

He was really robbed and won that contest easily.

Oh the tangibles Dre brings to the table!

nah, he sux.

he only scores like 5 ppg that count.

This makes me so happy.

and he will be the Sixers’ first representative since Allen Iverson in 2006.

Pretty sure Iverson made the all star game in 2010…

he made it, but he didn’t make it, if you catch my drift.

love the all star commercial that flashes one picture of Iguodala for a fraction of a second. Philly represent, wut wuuut??!!

greatest fraction of a second ever.
anybody know when

this rookie sophomore game draft thing is?

next thursday during the pregame i think

Turner gets drafted #2 and gets labeled a bust after the game.

But he’ll play better towards the end of the game, spend the offseason working on his game, and come back next year as a much better All-Star :)

yet somehow meeks will get more playing time than him.

With the Early Success of the Sixers, Someone Had to Be Selected

Just kidding. The Nuggets have a good all-around team, too, but none of their guys were selected to play in the All-Star game.
